Welcome to my Actors site. My name is Dawn Guest. I was born and raised on the South side of Chicago Illinois in a neighborhood called Roseland/West Pullman. I first got involved in acting when I was a toddler at church. Whether it was Easter Sunday speeches or Christmas plays, there was always some performance, even liturgical dance. I have always loved acting. I remember when I was young I would always act out situations along with my two brothers and two sisters. During my grammar school years at McDade Classical School, I started doing plays in first grade. By the time I got to Sixth grade I landed a leading role as a grandma kidnapper.
I attended Whitney M. Young Magnet H. S. . These years were focused on landing A's so I could get a scholarship to college. Therefore I only did extra roles, dancing, and makeup in high school plays. However, I did manage to find time in high school to dance with the school dance organization,Stage Dance, under Ms. Brooks, draw like a madwoman, and twirl my baton nationwide.
I received a full presidential scholarship to the University of Illinois. I studied there for four years and finished my studies at Chicago State University. The plan was to earn a college degree, not get pregnant, not take drugs, nor land a spot in jail. So that's what I did. I graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and a minor in Studio Art and African American Studies. It took me six years cause I refused to graduate without taking as many classes in my concentrations as possible (21 hours a semester); African American Studies, Studio Art, and Acting not to mention being a part of the UIC dancing flames dance squad and the chair for the UIC fashion show (now that was drama :O)).Throughout college I completed several acting classes at the university. I remember my first role as a giraffe and tree in a university play.
I relocated to Indianapolis after graduation in search of love and found myself growing up, slowing down, reflecting, and smelling all the coffee beans. I had a new outlook on life, a new focus. I finished my first poetry book 'Even Angels Have Broken Wings'.
After one year, I returned to Chicago and enrolled in the Audition Studio....wow.....my eyes were opened to opportunity of Acting as a profession. I finally realized that after all years that my calling was to be an actress to share my drama and to scream. I met a modeling agent named Lineata Carter and joined with her modeling agency called PGP now Ayanna Models. Always keeping my eyes and ears opened, I learned a lot about the entertainment biz working with Lineata I started my website for self promotion in 2001 after my first modeling assignment in Gavelston Texas. I started modeling for ESPN throughout the Chicago land area. I hooked up with a photographer by the name of Jim Hewitt and for one full year we created as much photography art as possible.
In 2002 my website was featured nation- wide in a five minute interview on Fox news primarily because I was teaching Mathematics and modeling swim wear. Fox called it Teacher or Tease! Go figure! I've appeared in several magazines, catalogues, pageants, websites, and swim wear catalogues since 2001 and as far as acting goes....I haven't stopped. I've done several independent films, was cast as a host on the reality sports show Da Fan, completed several commercials nationwide and local, feature films, reality TV, TV, and theater.
I relocated to Los Angeles in August of 2002 to pursue my dream in acting. My Dad and I took the long haul, packed up the car, and then drove out here to sunny and hot LA. Thanx Dad.
I began studying at Ivanna Chubbuck’s school. Chubbuck’s school happened to be similar to my studies in Chicago. I truly enjoy writing scripts. I completed November Rain, Loosing It, and I am currently working on Natalie. I am working on a Masters in Technology as well as Digital Animation. I got married January 6, 2006, the day of Epiphany, to actor William L. Johnson. :O)
